What's up Warriors!!! We are now in week 8 of football season. YB is currently 1-6, and the season has been a rough pill to swallow but that will not stop our Warriors from locking in for the rest of the season. The tickets will be 8 dollars but if you have an ASB card, then it will be FREE to enter. Make sure to come to our game because it is our biggest rival, the Andrew Hill Falcons! Also, it is a homecoming game and HOCO is on Saturday, Oct. 17th. Make sure to pull up and show support! GO WARRIORSSSSS!

Hey hey hey Warriors! It was week seven of high school football, and the season has been a long drought. Yerba Buena High School traveled to James Lick High School for their third regular-season game; here’s what you should know:

Since the Comets forfeited their entire Varsity season, we were only able to spectate a JV game. This does mean that Varsity finally has their first win, and let’s hope the Warriors keep it this way. The JV team had their first-ever Thursday Night Lights game at 7:15 PM, with high hopes as they entered the field. With a physical James Lick offense, the Warriors defense allowed 12 points in return for zero points scored on the offense. The final score was 0-12, and the Warriors are now 1-6.

The next matchup will be a big one. Let us get a drum roll🥁🥁🥁… It will be a HOMECOMING GAME! On October 16th, the Yerba Buena Warriors will be hosting their number one rival, the Andrew Hill Falcons. Expect a packed-out home crowd, so be sure to come out and be a part of the student section!

Tickets will cost $8, and if you have an ASB card, it will be free. For unknown reasons, James Lick does NOT have a Varsity team, so our JV team will be the only one battling the Comets. Our Warriors have been training hard, so expect to see their first win of the season; our boys are HUNGRYYY. BE SURE TO SHOW UP AND SUPPORT YOUR WARRIORS!!!

 Hola Warriors! On October 2nd, the Warriors had their sixth game of the season against Independence High School on our home turf. JV and Varsity took a tough loss on the day, and here's what you should know:

The weather was hot, and the turf was warmer than usual, but the JV boys embraced the field anyway. The 2-3 Independence Sixers gave the 1-4 Yerba Buena Warriors a tough game. The final score was 0-41, and Yerba Buena could not score any touchdowns.

The Varsity game was not much of a difference; the 4-1 Independence High School scored 49 points, and the Warriors scored only one touchdown. Even when the Warriors had a chance, it seemed like a rough day for the defense and offense. The final score was 7-49, with the only touchdown scored by #8 Jose Horta. 

The next matchup will be at James Lick High School; however, Varsity will not have a game because the James Lick Comets forfeited their Varsity season. Despite this, set a reminder on your phone and come out to support your Warriors!

Note: There will only be a JV game at 7:15 PM.

Welcome back, Warriors!!! On September 25th, the Yerba Buena High School football team had their regular-season opener against Prospect High School on the road. Prospect only had enough for a Varsity team, meaning that they couldn’t host a JV game. Here’s what you should know about week five:

It was electric for the home crowd at Prospect High School because it was their homecoming game. The band was loud, and the spectators were screaming their hearts out. The Warriors started out poorly, and Prospect scored the first two touchdowns, making the score 0-12. After that, YB picked themselves up and punched in their first TD after a deep ball from #2 QB Jason Waters to #7 WR/DE Collin Tengson. Following this momentum, the defense made some great defensive stops, and the game was neck & neck. Ultimately, the game went to double overtime, and Prospect scored the final TD after the Warriors’ offense could not find the end zone in overtime. The score was 26-32, but let’s not forget the players who made their name known that night: #1 SS/RB Michael Montoya scored three TDs and one INT, #16 LB/DE Marco Osuna had many sacks/TFLs, and #5 Axel Benitez had one INT. The Warriors are now 0-5, and now they will be hosting Independence High School at home on October 2nd.

YOOOO WARRIORS!!! DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS? IT’S OFFICIALLY OUR FIRST REGULAR SEASON GAME OF THE YEAR. Week 5 will be an away game against Prospect High School. The entrance fee will be $8; however, if you own an ASB card provided by our school, you are able to enter the game for FREE! Right now, our preseason campaign has ended, and both JV and Varsity are now 0-4. Our Warriors saw a big improvement compared to the first three weeks, fighting their hardest until the final whistle. The JV game will begin at 4:30 PM, and Varsity will kick off at 7:00 PM. It will be hosted at the Panthers’ territory, and the atmosphere will be at an all-time high since this is the Prospect Panthers’ homecoming game. WE know how determined the Warriors are to start the season off strong, so make sure to show up and don't let our Warriors be discouraged. Remember to come out and CHEER THEM ON!! GO WARRIORS!!!!

HEY HEY HEY Warriors!!! Last week on Friday, September 18th, the Yerba Buena Warriors travelled to Gunderson High School for their final preseason game of the year. We are now entering week 5 of football, which means there will be only six guaranteed games left for Football. Here’s what you should know about last Friday:

Our JV boys travelled early to Gunderson with some of their main players out, meaning it was tough for the young roster to find their answer. #3 WR/DB/K Dominic Boueche stepped in for #0 QB Adrian Diaz at quarterback. His only connections were #2 RB/LB Ken Cordero, #7 WR/CB/PR Adrian Garcia, and #6 Christian Villanueva, with some notable receptions and good runs. Let’s hope our JV boys are able to find their victory this week!

The first half of the Warriors’ Varsity game was tough, as our team was not able to find its momentum. The score was 0-21 for the Gunderson Grizzlies after the first two quarters. Not long after the second half started, #1 SS/RB Michael Montoya and his teammate #7 WR/DE Collin Tengson drove down the field, scoring the first touchdown to shorten the margin to 6-27, giving our Warriors an incredible amount of energy. Continuously, #1 SS/RB Michael Montoya once again stepped up for the team, scoring a “pick-six” on defense after snatching the ball away from the Grizzlies' quarterback, altering the score to 14-27. Following this excitement, #10 LB/QB Isaac Pimentel and #17 DE/FB/TE Eliesa Tupou picked up the sideline’s and the cheerleaders' chants as motivation to shut down the Grizzlies’ running offense. This allowed the Yerba Buena offense to score another touchdown thanks to the chemistry of #2 QB Jason Waters to his wideout #7 WR/DE Collin Tengson. At this point, the game was 20-27, and our Warriors were thinking of a different ending that they haven’t seen in a while. Unfortunately, Gunderson scored one last touchdown of the night, officially ending the game 20-35.

The Yerba Buena Warriors are now 0-4 as they enter week 5 of football. This week, our Warriors will be traveling to Prospect High School for their regular-season opener against the 2-1 Prospect Panthers. Be sure to come out and support our team! #FearTheSpear

HEYYY WARRIORS!!! It is now week FOUR of football, and the Warriors are now ready to train hard for their upcoming opponent. With the game coming in hot, our Warriors are going to face off against Gunderson away. The entrance fee will be 8 dollars; however, if you have an ASB card, you can get in for FREE! Currently, we are 0-3 for both JV and Varsity after the first three games, but a wise man once said, "It isn't the start that matters; it's how you end it..." Expect our Warriors to persevere with determination to end the preseason off with a BANG!!! Let's hope our Warriors will beat Gunderson in a stunning fashion this Friday, September 18th. JV will start at 4:30 PM, and Varsity will start at 7:00 PM; again, Warriors, make sure to show up and bring that WARRIOR SPIRIT! #FearTheSpear

Hey Warriors! On Thursday, September 10th, our Yerba Buena Warriors played their third preseason game against Gilroy High School. The 654th-ranked Mustangs gave our Warriors a tough challenge, and both teams scored heavily. JV finished 0-42, and Varsity ended 0-51. Here’s a quick recap of what happened:

JV struggled on both sides of the ball against their toughest opponent yet. Even with their main starters back, our Warriors could not find the end zone. Let’s hope this young roster finds its answer next week!

Up next, our Varsity team struggled due to our players getting injured one after another. Defensively, our Warriors showed glimpses of a much more aggressive and loud defense in the beginning, but due to injuries, our Warriors’ backups had to step in. Continuously, we fought until the end, but facing a very disciplined Mustang defense, we could not score any points for the night. Ultimately, the game ended with many players out, but our Warriors will now have many returners who have been missing for the last three weeks, hoping to claim their first win next Friday against the Gunderson Grizzlies!

Be sure to travel to Gunderson High School next week on Friday, September 18th to support your Warriors on the road! #FearTheSpear

Hey Warriors! We are now officially entering WEEK THREE of Football as our Warriors will be taking on the Gilroy Mustangs here at home. With a rough start for both JV and Varsity (0-2), the Warriors are now in search of their first win. This will be one of the last pre-season games of the season as well as the last home game for a while, so be sure to come out and support your Warriors. Once again, remember to bring that Warrior SPIRIT!!!

What’s up Warriors!!! Our football team had their second matchup of the week on September 4th after being scheduled to play Saratoga High School. Last week Friday Night Lights was a rough one as both our JV and Varsity teams are now 0-2. Here’s what you should know about last Friday’s matchup.

The JV matchup was heavily defensive, with the final score being 0-8 for the Falcons. Our Warriors had many chances to enter the endzone, but failed every time. Our team had many backups in with some of their main starters sitting out for the week. It was a great learning lesson for the team and they are now looking forward to week three.

Next, Saratoga scored many points against the Warriors’ defense, and they showed a lot of struggles both defensively and offensively. Being scheduled against a 359th ranked team in the state, the 0-41 win was not unexpected for the Saratoga Falcons. Our team captain #1 SS/RB Michael Montoya showed glimpses of explosive plays on offense, and our #24 DT/LB Christopher Ortega showed great effort on defense and special teams. 

We are proud of our Warriors and their nonstop effort to fight, and let’s now focus on week three where our Warriors will be facing off against Gilroy High School on Thursday, September 10th. Be sure to show up and show that Warrior SPIRIT!!! #FearTheSpear

Hey Warriors! We are back at it once again under the Friday Night Lights as our Warriors will be taking the stage for the first game of September, hoping to bounce back from week one! This week’s matchup cannot be taken lightly, and our Warriors have had their time to prepare against Saratoga High School. Coming into week two, our Warriors are searching for their first win. Our Yerba Buena Warriors officially began their 10-week campaign after they faced off against Westmont High School last Friday, August 28th. Unfortunately, our Warriors had a rough start after JV and Varsity suffered a loss, which means our Warriors will begin 0-1. Here’s what you should know about what happened last Friday:

After a good hustle from their quarterback, #8 Adrian Diaz, the Warriors were able to punch in six points, helping them equalize the score to 6-6 in the second quarter. Though, after their only score of the day, the Warriors lost their momentum, allowing Westmont to score a few more touchdowns to finalize the score of 6-36. Coming off of a hard-fought game, our Warriors were able to claim some key takeaways, including their offensive lineman John Ha with great protection up front, followed by solid receptions from their wideouts.

Next up, as the night lights turned on for the Varsity game, our Warriors came in with great expectations and confidence. Our Warriors were scheduled against an opponent who is currently placed in the B-League (two leagues higher), which gave Yerba Buena a tough lesson. Inevitably, mistakes and low effort were showing as our Warriors scored only 2 touchdowns for the night, resulting in a 14-40 loss. Yerba Buena’s captain #1 SS/RB Michael Montoya and his offense drove down the field, helping him score two rushing touchdowns. In addition, #25 Jesus Gonzalez claimed an interception to shut off Westmont’s offensive drive, giving our Warriors some momentum. We are proud of our Warriors, and let's hope they will bounce back in week two against Saratoga High School here at home. #FearTheSpear

Welcome back Warriors!!! The Yerba Buena Sports Network page is back once again, looking to return stronger and better as we bring you the latest news on our Warriors’ Football program. The Warriors are making their return after an unforgettable season last year finishing 7-3 overall and 6-1 in WVAL, while JV finished 6-4 overall and 6-1 against their league matchups. With this record, our Varsity team shared first place with their championship rival, the San Jose Bulldogs. As for our JV team, they finished strong after placing second overall in the league. 

The Football program will now attempt to finish first in the West Valley Athletic League and potentially reach CCS for the first time. This team will be led by notable players, including: FS/RB Michael Montoya, our freshman athlete QB Jason Waters, WR Justin Waters, FB Jason Phan, LB/RB Sonny Vo, LB Isaac Pimentel, LB Axel Benitez, and CB Darwyn Elvir.

Our success last year resulted in 13 of our Football players receiving BVAL All-League honors. QB Nathan Tran received Senior of the Year, with his offensive lineman Diego Velazquez receiving Freshman of the Year after an incredible season for his first year on Varsity, and finally, WR/DB Joseph Silva as our Best Utility Player. Giovanny Rangel, Kevin Tu, Michael Montoya, Collin Tengson, and Justin Waters received First Team All-League. Jason Phan, Thomas Wagner, Quan Nguyen, Josue Molina, and Son Vo were named Second Team All-League

For players who are interested, whether you are new to football or have had experience, we welcome you to come out to practice; it runs Monday through Friday from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Bring cleats, water, mouthguard, and gym shoes (running shoes are also acceptable). Stay tuned for the next update on YBSN! #FearTheSpear
