Our Yerba Buena Warriors officially began their 10-week campaign after they faced off against Westmont High School last Friday, August 28th. Unfortunately, our Warriors had a rough start after JV and Varsity suffered a loss, which means our Warriors will begin 0-1. Here’s what you should know about what happened last Friday:

After a good hustle from their quarterback, #8 Adrian Diaz, the Warriors were able to punch in six points, helping them equalize the score to 6-6 in the second quarter. Though, after their only score of the day, the Warriors lost their momentum, allowing Westmont to score a few more touchdowns to finalize the score of 6-36. Coming off of a hard-fought game, our Warriors were able to claim some key takeaways, including their offensive lineman John Ha with great protection up front, followed by solid receptions from their wideouts.

Next up, as the night lights turned on for the Varsity game, our Warriors came in with great expectations and confidence. Our Warriors were scheduled against an opponent who is currently placed in the B-League (two leagues higher), which gave Yerba Buena a tough lesson. Inevitably, mistakes and low effort were showing as our Warriors scored only 2 touchdowns for the night, resulting in a 14-40 loss. Yerba Buena’s captain #1 SS/RB Michael Montoya and his offense drove down the field, helping him score two rushing touchdowns. In addition, #25 Jesus Gonzalez claimed an interception to shut off Westmont’s offensive drive, giving our Warriors some momentum. We are proud of our Warriors, and let's hope they will bounce back in week two against Saratoga High School here at home. #FearTheSpear
